frequently asked questions

portrait sessions and pre-wedding shoots

where do these shoots take place?

At a location of your choice. We can arrange to visit you at home if you would like to feature your property or, more usually, we arrange to meet at a park or beach!

We often arrange to meet first at your home or at a cafe to have a chance to relax over a coffee before heading out for the shoot.

If young children are involved a park with a playground is especially useful to help them relax and start being themselves!

I'm not comfortable in front of a camera

Don't worry, a lot of people say that until they realise that we are used to making people feel at ease and enjoy the session!

We soon discover if we need to work hard to make you relax or if you blink a lot!

will there be a lot of posing?

That is entirely your choice. Some people are very comfortable in front of a camera and are quite happy for us to suggest they try some arty or fashion-styled shots.

If you prefer a relaxed and informal style then we concentrate on putting you at your ease and just being yourself.

how is a shoot organised?

We usually start slowly (after the aforementioned coffee-break!) with full-length group shots or couple shots as appropriate and as you start to 'warm up' and feel more relaxed we move in closer.

Once you are comfortable we can suggest moving to different nearby locations and we are constantly on the lookout for alternative spots at the location to give you the widest possible variety of results.

why are your portrait sessions more expensive
than some others I've seen?

We will generally spend 2 to 2½ hours with you on location and there will two of us photographing.

We tightly edit the results and give you a set of approximately 50 highly-processed and re-touched print-ready images on disk. We also include a number of professionally produced prints.

We prefer to give our clients a complete service rather than offer an inexpensive sitting fee followed by the option of purchasing individual prints.

By keeping our prices realistic we hope our clients will return to us when they have special events to record such as births, engagements, weddings etc and thereby develop a long-term relationship!

wedding shoots

what is your style?

Relaxed, informal and candid photography to capture your day as it unfolds - combined with a thoughtful selection of formal shots where appropriate, such as family groups.

We put a lot of effort into understanding what our couples require, their tastes and sense of style, and adapt our style according to their artistic and fashion sensibilities.

Most couples want the more contemporary style of wedding photography which depicts their family and friends being themselves whilst recording the story of the day.

This we do whilst taking care to observe the important customs surrounding each couples' particular background and traditions.

how much time should we allow for photos?

That's easy, the more time we are given then the greater the variety of shots we can give you!

We prefer to work with our couples throughout the day, a few minutes here and there can give a wide variety of shots but for a location visit then 30 minutes or more is best for each location.

We have been know to shoot a complete set of bride and groom shots in 15 minutes but we prefer a little longer!

when will we see our wedding photos?

We aim to have proofs, slideshows and the web-based images available within two weeks of your wedding. For many couples this is perfect as they can see them immediately after their honeymoon!

ALL photos will have been optimised, re-touched and perfected during the post-production.

You will always see your photos BEFORE your family and friends see them!

can you photograph the groom's preparations? Provided the logistics of travelling between the bride and groom allow, then yes - Kim will stay with the bride whilst Steve is more than happy to spend time with the groom!

do you stay for the evening reception?

We are yours for the day. No event has to be staged and we will be there to see the dancing and bouquet throwing etc. Every wedding is different but we rarely have to finish before the bride and groom depart.

We have known couples who party into the early hours of the next morning, so we do reserve the option to finish before the close of celebrations or alternatively suggest that a hotel room is booked for us which can enable us to stay longer!

how early will you start? We aim to be as flexible as possible and only if we are asked to start before mid-morning would we suggest that we might need to charge a small supplement. This would cover the extra work we would be creating for ourselves by shooting even more images than usual!

why do you have a photography-only package?

To offer couples a wider choice. Every package includes the same photography coverage but many clients take this option as it spreads the costs during what is, afterall, an expensive time.

However, if you choose to commit to an album package before your wedding you will receive a discount across each part of the package. We have included some example packages in our list of fees but can create a discounted package tailored to your requirements.

how many photos do you take on the day?

Being digital-only photographers we are able to shoot many more images than we need. This enables us to edit out blinks and distractions. We then carefully edit the results to give you a thoughtfully chosen selection of images which are sufficient in number to tell the story of the day without there being too many similar in subject.

It is our experience that 350 to 400 images are a good number to achieve this and are not so many that we cannot guarantee to treat them all with the amount of care and attention that we always give our work.

All our work is subject to our renowned post-production skills and we pride ourselves in the variety of images which we present to our couples, not only for the variety of subject matter but also for the variety of finish and processing which we incorporate into the final selection.

will the photos be re-touched?

As mentioned above, each and every image is carefully and sympathetically re-touched to bring out it's full potential. Sometimes that simply involves enhancing the colours or contrast but at other times we see the opportunity to create emotive artwork or creative imagery.

We both enjoy the post-production part of our work and strive to produce creative and artistic images which are a step beyond 'normal' wedding photography.

will we receive the digital negatives?

If you order an album we will give you a disk containing the high-resolution files, ready for printing. We only charge for this disk on the rare occasion that a client requires these files without purchasing an album.

We do this because our work is our reputation and we prefer clients to have in their possession a printed article over which we have had quality control.

do you shoot more than one wedding per day?

Never - even though there are two of us we only book a single shoot per day to ensure we can give you the attention you deserve.

We also enjoy working with each other!

will you visit our venue before my wedding? Always - we like to know what we will be encountering and try to avoid any last minute surprises!

do you shoot video as well?

No - we know that video is a completely different discipline and although we have shot video in the past we know from our experiences with creating our promo videos that the real talent is in the video editing.

We are quite happy to work with videographers and often find that by doing so both our still imagery and the video end up with an even greater range of style!
